Yurts are an amazing circular space that captivated our hearts from the moment we saw then. The unique area creates an environment of warmth and the natural materials of canvas, wool & timber, create an earth natural breathable abode that sets you mind & soul at ease.
And how cool is this fact:
The yurt structure is rooted in the spiritual beliefs of early Mongolian tribes, the round shape evoking the sky and the central pillars symbolising the connection between earth and the heavens.
The doors of Oasis officially on 1st February 2018! We did have 2 amazing guests join us a day earlier than expected as they were caught by hurricane Gita whilst hiking Te Araroa! Many amazingly talented, intuitive, creative and often patient people help in the creation of the Oasis vision that we could never thank enough for believing in us and helping create this unique spot for all to enjoy!
We have a total of 6 yurts here at Oasis
The lodge construction started with a vision of Rusty’s! Wanting to use as many natural resources as possible to produce a building that was lower impact, captivating yet functional.
The walls are made from earth sourced from the Cardrona Valley and formed using rammed earth technique. Timbers used for the large trusses are NZ Oregon and the soffits & sarking Macrocarpa.
All of our facilities are shared in the Central Lodge, which is just a short walk from each yurt. Facilities are maintained & services regularly to keep in tip top shape for all.
We think biking rocks so we have on offer a fleet of bikes for guests use (foc). Available on a first come basis our bikes are a fantastic option for exploring some of Wānakas amazing tracks and trails right here from Oasis
We like to personally welcome our guests between 2pm and 8pm each day and check-out is by 10am.
Children are absolutely welcome here at Oasis. Those little ones under 2 years old are invited to co-sleep with you or alternatively you can bring your own porta cot or hire one from us. Kiddies age 3 years and over are counted in our room occupancy numbers
The lodge is fully equipped and provisioned for you to self-cater yourself up a storm, our main supermarket is a short 5km drive away as is open 7am -9pm daily! (except Christmas 😉)
If you’re pushed for time or travelling light you can add on breakfast to your stay. We provide a wholesome home crafted breakfast option, this can be prearranged or requested upon arrival
We work with a couple of fabulous local providers to offer deluxe grazing boxes or picnic hampers to be delivered to you onsite. These can be ordered as ‘extras” at check-out, as part of our Special Occasions Packages or please email us for more details
Yes we are blessed with fantastic water straight from our on-site bore!
We regret that for safety reasons, open fires are NOT permitted on site under any circumstances. Our climate here in Central Otago is extremely dry and throughout a big portion of the year we have a compulsory fire ban throughout the Wānaka region.
Each Yurt has it’s own wood burner which can be used through the Winter months (April – November). Upon check-in we show all guests how to use the fire – if you are not comfortable with the fire there is also electric heating!
For group booking requiring 4 yurts or more we can offer a range of private hire options of a personal or commercial nature. Please contact us directly to discuss your ideas and if Oasis is a suitable option.
There is a commercial coin operated washing machine & dryer right here at Oasis for all your laundry needs, and weather permitting you will be able to dry your items on one of the handy portable clothes racks
Absolutely!! Let the games begin! Currently we have Giant Jenga, Kubb and Ladder Ball as our outdoor social competition options!
We love handcrafted wooden games so if you have any suggestions of the next item to add to the fleet let us know!
If you explore you may find hammocks and a slackline too!
We adore music, yet we are also creating an environment where all of our guests can feel comfortable & relax.
If you are playing music on your own instruments or devices we ask that you be mindful of other guests (not everyone likes country music on repeat for 5 hours 😉) and please reduce the volume to a low conversational level between 9pm & 7am
Yes the Lodge carpark is within easy walkable distance to the lodge, yurts and grounds
As we welcome many guests and ourselves have animals & birds at the property we cannot accommodate pets. If you are bringing a registered guide dog please contact us before your stay.
All of our yurts are certified buildings, which means unlike traditional glamping they meet all regulations of a traditional house – including warmth!
We are a year round accommodation and Winter is a fabulous time to visit Wānaka and experience Yurt Living – after all the Mongolian tribes live in yurts in the Steppes!
Yurts are insulated with Tera-Lana wool insulation, and heated via a wood burner &/or our electric Dyson Jet Focus Hot/Cool systems.
To keep you extra warm all beds are fitted with NZ wool duvets (500gsm in Winter, less in Summer) and you’ll find a plenitude of NZ wool blankets also available
Being a 21st century nature lodge we do have a fabulous WiFi connection, helping you to keep in touch and share your tales of adventure with friends and loved ones around the globe.
Alternatively you can of course turn off all signals and devices and enjoy some complete mind rejuvenation time
The Shed Guesthouse is our other accommodation here at The Oasis property
Although a separate product, The Shed Guesthouse follows all our ethos’s of interaction and community. The guesthouse has 2 ensuite queen rooms with it’s own shared lounge & kitchen.
A great option if you have travelling companions that would like a more traditional accommodation option
