So, you are heading to Wanaka either because you love the outdoors, the image of the lakes, rivers and mountains and getting out amongst nature to hike, bike, climb, canyon, jet boat, the list goes on….
Well not everyone is as enthusiastic about adventure as us, it’s your restful few days or possibly secretly sometimes it does rain in Wanaka (shhh) so here are some fabulous indoors or non-adventure activities to stimulate your holiday planning!

As you enter the property there’s a nice open café area with tediously fun and fascinating puzzles on every table plus a little gift shop, which stocks some great wooden and other games and puzzles
National Transport & Toy Museum

The transport museum has rare and unusual aircraft, cars, trucks, motorcycles, military vehicles, farm machinery and tractors. Then the toy museum has an enormous unique and diverse collection of clockwork and battery powered toys, porcelain dolls, teddy bears, pedal cars and money boxes. There are indoor and outdoor playing areas for the kids and the a great selection of models and gifts in the shop area
The Lavender Farm
An awesome place for a relaxing morning or afternoon, the gardens are immense and fabulously maintained, with interested statues and games hidden around the place. There’s a tearoom serving up lavender infused goodies, a honey shop plus a great farm area with alpaca, heritage chickens, cuniculi, highland cows and many more
Basecamp Indoor Climbing Centre
A great option for people looking to give climbing a try or train indoors whilst the weather is bad! There’s a bouldering room plus a ‘Clip & Climb’ area which is even suitable for all ages, even preschoolers! It is fun, entertaining, challenging and a great family option
3 screen, state of the art, classic movie theatre. Comfy old sofas, an old Morris Minor or two, a cafe and bar serving delicious meals before, during or after the movie. Homemade ice cream & world-famous fresh hot cookies are delicious. Gives you a “half time” break. A truly memorable movie experience!
A boutique 1920’s style cinema experience, transporting you to a time when going to the pictures was an event. You can sit in a glamorous booth and enjoy a pre-movie beverage and the cinema seating itself offers luxurious couches – almost like going to the theatre.
